Goosebumps Film Trailer Review

Goosebumps 2015 comedy horror film based on R L Stine's Goosebumps children's horror books

So what is there to say about the Goosebumps official movie trailer? For starters, Goosebumps looks particularly pretty with its CGI monsters and gives off a "Jumanji" and "The Monster Squad" kind of feel to it. Knowing such facts, Goosebumps may very well become the next children's film classic. The original R.L. Stine's Goosebumps books are (of themselves) have such ridiculous concepts which provide genuine scares, taught lessons, and entertained a lot of children back in the days (and still as of the present) who are now seeing their favorite characters be brought to life... again.

Goosebumps 2015 comedy horror film movie adaptation of R L Stine's Goosebumps' books starring Jack Black featuring Abominable Snowman

Yes, I was able to say again as not long ago Goosebumps was adapted to a television series which captured the hearts of the kids back in the late 90's. The Canadian/American horror anthology television series first featured the monsters that we can see in this 2015 comedy horror flick starring Jack Black. While those who grew up watching Goosebumps (including me) where genuinely skeptical at first when I first saw it, it eventually grew on me as this is simply not an every re-telling of every story of the many R.L. Stine Goosebumps book, but a fresh film. A fresh take for a newer audience that celebrates the history of both the print and television media that was Goosebumps. A tribute of a film that could gather new market or kids to check out the literary horror classic, Goosebumps. I am generally positive about this film and will check it once it hits the theaters.

Oz The Great and Powerful Film Trailer Review

Most of us grew up with the story of Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion and how they defeat the Wicked Witch who have been a menace to the people of the magical land of Oz. People who grew up with the story might have asked the question Ïf Oz was like Dorothy, an ordinary human, what was his story?". Finally after decades, Hollywoiod through Walt Disney Pictures now tells the story behind (or origin) of the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz.

Walt Disney Pictures has done an excellent job with the presentation of Oz The Great and Powerful official trailer. The magical land of Oz has been beautifully re-imagined in 3-D. The cast of the 2013 prequel to Oz is pretty solid with James Franco as Oscar Diggs (will be later known as the Wizard of Oz). The film can cater to both kids with its magical and fantasy setting, and adults who grew up hearing the story of The Wizard of Oz who wanted to know the origin of the Wizard who helped Dorothy. We'll have another good fantasy film from Walt Disney this 2013.

Silent Hill is back and just like a more video game based movie adaptation (Resident Evil) it is going to be in 3-D as well. Silent Hill: Revelations 3D first made its debut on the San Diego Comic-Con 2012 with a scene featuring the Silent Hill Nurse.

Finally after 6 years, Hollywood has decided to take another shot with Silent Hill. I just don't know how to feel with films going 3-D nowadays, hopefully this Silent Hill sequel has something more to offer than the eye-popping 3-D and the extra bucks that goes with this theatrical effect. Well it is nice to see some iconic scenes and characters from the Silent Hill universe like Pyramid Head, the nurses and the actual town itself but hopefully there is more genuine scares and an actually good (not a carbon copy of the video games) story that weaves all of the scares and effects together. Well, let's keep our fingers crossed on this video game based movie, and hopefully it doesn't suck like any other video games that come before it.

The Man with the Iron Fists Film Trailer Review

If you're a fan of action, martial arts, beautiful women films, and a kick ass soundtrack then you might already got pretty hyped up with what The Man with the Iron Fists has to offer in this initial trailer. It is quite refreshing to see some Western or non-Asian characters in a martial arts film set in China. This freshness in concept along with the cool fight sequences, stunning visuals and musical scoring is what is this trailer showcased, but is it all too good to be true?

One thing that we can be sure is to never trust a film based on its trailers... well we can only hope. According to a information first featured in various movie-centric websites, "The first cut of the film was 4 hours long and RZA suggested splitting it into two films, but Roth disagreed and it was ultimately cut down to approximately 90 minutes." This does not bid well for the film. From four hours to just 90 minutes? Hopefully the editing is flawless, and they should for the people know about this blunder so the best the production team could do is to at least do a pretty darn good job to make up for it. I am not hoping for a convoluted story line nor a deeper meaning to life or any of those piece of somethings, this is an action film and they should at least live up to what the trailer has built now. Let's just hope that it is a great entertaining action flick.

Epic Film Trailer Review

For a 2013 animated film, this is really quite early for an official trailer to be released, but I guess it is better to build the hype early, right? So what can we make up for this first look on Epic, an upcoming film reminiscent of 1992's Fern Gully.

Epic 2013 early 2012 trailer release featuring a shrunk female teenager voiced by Amanda Seyfried to fairy size

Well thanks to all these early press releases, we really have a good idea on what to expect with Epic, but of course not everything was spoiled. The question what is the war all about, how did the main protagonist end up as tiny as the mystical fairies, and what will be her part in this story are some of the usual questions raised by these kinds of family adventure animated film. They are still a year a head and a lot more time to polish and improve the already lively and lush universe that Epic tries to set up. Let's just hope that it doesn't get too predictable.

Faith in Hollywood restored! In times where everything seems to be a rehashed of something, it is rare and a great sigh of relief to see some few gems pop up every once in a while. I don't know, I just feel like Wreck-It Ralph has this very fresh concept using video games as its main selling point.

Having a villain eventually becoming a hero is not really a new idea, but when one entertainment media incorporate it with another entity like a video game it suddenly changes into something new. Being a fan of both films and video games, I just find the trailer for Wreck-It Ralph to be fresh and awesome. It is probably because of the many video game references the film will use, not to mention the cameos of various video game characters as seen in the trailer. This same scenario reminds me of the classic "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" which borrowed cartoon characters from different kids shows and weave them all in into one mega movie. Hopefully this film will achieve what "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" has.

Adam Sandler is back with another comedy film! Now, now... before you go on a discussion about how Adam Sandler has lost his comedic touch, let's first take a look at this film. You don't see the comedian here, only his voice. Adam Sandler voiced the dreaded Count Dracula, the owner of Hotel Transylvania.

When a human unknowingly and accidentally stumbled upon a human-free hotel for monsters, it is up to the Count to remedy this conflict. Well if it was a straightforward horror film, the solution to the problem would be to just kill the human, sadly it isn't. Hotel Transylvania is a family movie so the pretty obvious answer is the pretty oblivious one. Although the outcome would be pretty predictable, it is still fun to see the most feared monsters portrayed in a completely different way. Hotel Transylvania is worth taking a look so bring the entire family along when this film hits the theater.

What the stop motion animated film lacks in original plot, it makes up for with its visual presentation. ParaNorman is a good-looking 3-D stop motion animated film, and although we have seen such kind of storyline before it still somehow intrigues me a bit. ParaNorman seems to reference various popular horror icons as seen in the trailer. It is "too cute" to simply put it and this might become an advantage or disadvantage for the film. Tim Burton is back ready to scare the hell out of the 21st century children with Frankenweenie. To an adult perspective, Frankenweenie may very well be another kid's film, but if you carefully look pass that aspect, the ideas and the general dark presentation (theme) of the film is more likely aim for adults. Tim Burton has been known for his usually dark and quirky-themed movies which extends to Frankenweenie. If you lost someone dear to your life, it is only natural to want them back but of course it is not possible, but what if you can? That is what this stop motion animated film plays with. This time, Burton went with the animation to avoid possible conflict which his original 1984 Frankenweenie encountered: It was said that Burton was fired by Disney after the film was completed; the studio claimed that he had wasted company resources and felt the film was too scary for young audiences. But times are changing and so does kids tolerance with violence and dark themes. But to probably play safe, Burton may went with the 3-D stop motion animated remake.

Sadako 3D Film Trailer Review

We can't deny that nostalgia plays a big part in the success of a movie. Adaptations of an an iconic television show, book, or video game will usually bring out a feeling of excitement to those who grew up with such titles. The original Japanese Ring is probably one of the first Asian horror films that spook the living hell out of me as a kid which made me fell in love with it as a horror fan later on (the next film being Ju-on/Grudge). Knowing that Sadako 3D is a movie written by the original author of the nove Ring, this makes me more excited to see how will they creep out the fans who grew up with their Ring film series.

Ring (Ringu) 1998 Japanese horror film by Hideo Nakata Sadako

Ring's Sadako (Ringu) - 1998 Japanese horror film by Hideo Nakata.

I have read a couple of rumors regarding Sadako 3D: Mainly that the film is a spin-off movie and that the title is still subjective to change. Well, at least it is not a reboot. The past Ring films were uniquely scary in their own time and although it would be interesting to see how will Japan upgrade the scares, they decided not to. Luckily Japan isn't that crazy about making reboots unlike Hollywood. Spin-off movie? why not. Seeing the films synopsis, there is a more sinister power behind the resurfacing of the curse of Sadako, the question is will he have the same tragic story that drove him to extreme ends to creating chaos through Sadako's curse? That is what I am looking forward to with this film. No, I am not looking forward to its US adaptation but for the subtitled version if ever it gets an international theatrical release or even in home video format. And Sadako 3D? Well, I think it is a lame title as well. They can improve it by omitting the 3D and just going with plain old Sadako, although Ring: Sadako's Curse would probably have a nicer tone to it, but that's just me. Will the scares be elevated by incorporating 3-D, that is what will everyone find out once it gets released in spooktacular 3-D.

Sadako 3D 2012 Japanese Horor Film Ringu Sequel

Generally fans of the Ring are pretty much hyped about this Japanese film. Hopefully seeing the international reception, the people behind it would release this internationally, but knowing the internet and devoted fans this will definitely be available in some definite time in the not so near future. Sadako 3D trailer has its creepy moments and some really cliche but still creepy parts present in a typical Asian horror movie, something that I personally adore.

Resident Evil Retribution Film Trailer Review

IT IS A PROPAGANDA, I SAY!!! I didn't know that this is an actual trailer for the film because at first I thought that this was an ad for the Vita. The latest Sony handheld, the PS Vita made a cameo in this trailer which is a big "DUH?", Hahahaha bring on the flame Sony Fan Boys. But seriously speaking, this is just the film giving a nod or tribute to where the entire Resident Evil video game franchise which this film franchise was based on all started, on the original Sony Playstation.

So we have Milla Jovovich again introducing that she's Alice again, because we might have already forgotten about her on the last four films that she just starred. Well personally speaking, I already lost track of this franchise after after Extinction, I think there is something to that last film that disappointed me or made me not excited to watch the next film. I guess I need to watch that last RE film in order to understand this sequel and possible future sequels, that is if they still plan to milk this 3-D film franchise. Oh well, good luck on that.

What is there to say, there are zombies and I do hope that they finally gave us a much needed ending and a better writing and engaging storyline besides its flashy 3-D slow-mos and 3-D effects. What about you guys? Do you think I missed a lot when I didn't watch the last entry? Do you consider this entire film franchise as a goodenough adaptation of the popular gaming franchise? Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Film Trailer Review

Hey look it's the Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in another family movie. Is it me or this former tough guy has become the new face of wholesome family entertainment, but hey Hollywood seems to like so it might means something right? I am not saying that The Rock is that bad of an actor, but there can be better film genre (Ahem! action films!) that can utilize his full macho image. He is really being underutilized by Hollywood, or  is it over-utilized? Hmm...

Journey 2 The Mysterious Island 2012 family adventure 3d movie sequel to 2008 journey to the center of the earth in 3-D the rock

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a direct sequel to Journey to the center of the Earth, so expect the same level of entertainment but with just The Rock, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, and Vanessa Hudgens. The trailer is obviously targeted towards the whole family. From kids with its colorful visuals and stupendous 3-D presentation, teens with the inclusion Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens, and probably the parents with Michael Cain and Dwayne Johnson. Decent trailer which showcases what the 3-D film has in store for families who are willing to try out this "mysterious" film. Although the trailer shows nice 3-D and CGI effects there are some that really looks rush and unconvincing. Even if the world is set out to be a CGI-filled film, at least they should at least polished the visuals up. Seeing spaceships (or was that a submarine?) in the trailer means that there is/are more to this island than what the trailer is leading on... you know, like the many mysterious islands adventure type film that came before it.
