Evil Dead Official Red Band Trailer Impressions: Can this 2013 Remake Lived Up To Its Cult-Classic Origin?

Evil Dead is the upcoming 2013 remake of the popular 1981 cult classic Evil Dead. 2013's Evil Dead is directed and written by Fede Alvarez with Rodo Sayagues for screenplay, starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore. Evil Dead (2013) is slated for a tentative April 12, 2013 US theatrical release. Let's check out if this remake without Bruce in it be as phenomenal as the first film was?

Plot / Synopsis

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Although the film had the approval of both Sam Raimi and Evil Dead's main protagonist Bruce Campbell, Bruce as Ash won't be appearing on this modern reboot of the film that made him a household name. Well it is probably the best way to approach with this film. It is a different genre and the theme is teenagers and as much as we adore Bruce, he is not really around the "teen age". Also it is safe for him if ever the reboot does suck big time.

Luckily, the trailer isn't leading towards a "SUCK"-fest rating, rather I find it more creepier than its 1981 predecessor. Well it might be just me, but this trailer made me want to look at this newer version to just see what things will they add to the mix. I can see more blood, gore and "realism" on the trailer for the Evil Dead 2013 official red band trailer. I just wonder as to how will they marry in the comedic element on this seemingly more straight on horror flick. Hope they add new jokes because it would be disappointing if they even recycle THOSE. Generally (as you can see on the screen caps we managed to pull off from the trailer), the Evil Dead reboot for 2013 looks really promising.

Dark Shadows is a 2012 supernatural drama comedy film based on the 1966–1971 gothic soap opera of the same name. The film is directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp as the iconic Barnabas Collins, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloe Grace Moretz and Bella Heathcote. In 1752, the Collins family sails from Liverpool, England to North America. The son, Barnabas, grows up to be a wealthy playboy in Collinsport, Maine and is the master of Collinwood Manor. He breaks the heart of a witch, Angelique Bouchard, who turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. Fast forward to 200 years (1972), Barnabas is accidentally freed from his coffin and returns to find his once-magnificent manor in ruin. Now occupied by dysfunctional Collins descendants and other residents, Barnabas struggles catching up with time and dealing with the witch who cursed him who still is eventually still is into him.

Director by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp both admit to be fans of the original television soap, so there is hope that this would be the perfect and loyal film adaptation of that cult classic television show, right? Well, no! According to MTV, Tim Burton has opted "for gonzo comedy that should please many but may rile fans of the original soap opera."

As for someone who have never been exposed to such old gothic series, nor interested (that much) to goth themed shows in general, seeing the trailer alone is more than enough to excite me. The Dark Shadows' trailer looks hilarious and the right sort of weirdness expected from a Tim Burton and Johnny Depp film. I for one am hyped up for this film and will definitely see this once it hits the theaters this May 2012.
