"Carved: A Slit-Mouthed Woman" (Kuchisake-onna) Movies

As I've blogged about the Asian Urban Legend of the Slit-Mouthed Woman I've also encountered two movies which were inspired from it... the two movies were entitled "Kuchisake-Onna" or "Carved: A Slit-Mouthed Woman" Japanese Movies.

The first Japanese urban legend to movie adaptation release was last March 2007. The movie was internationally entitled as Carved: A Slit-Mouthed Woman which was also known as Kuchisake-onna in Japan where it was created. Here is a movie trailer of that movie:

Urban Legends: The Slit-Mouthed Woman

The slit-mouthed woman is an urban legend and myth originated from Japan about a woman mutilated by her husband out of jealousy and returned as a malicious spirit (or demon) committing the same acts done to her. Usually her victims are children. This urban legend (like most Urban Legends)has induced and created a short-lived fear and worries to some concerned individuals, specially to Asian children during the 1970s which is why a movie was produced about the tale of the slit-mouthed woman.



A short fan made news on the slit mouthed or the incident of severed mouth woman in the 1980s. Warning: Very Disturbing because I got disturbed hehehe.

"THE SLIT MOUTHED WOMAN"

There once was a very beautiful and vain woman had a very jealous husband. The jealous husband attacked his wife upon the impression and belief that he was being cuckolded or cheated. what he did was slit the mouth of his wife's beautiful ear from ear to ear screaming "Who will think you're beautiful now?".

The urban legend which is said to originated from the samurai era picks up from that point. The urban legend tells about a woman who has a surgical mask (as people with colds often wear masks for the sake of others in Japan) covering her face was said to roam at night.



"Am I beautiful?"

When she encounters someone (primarily children or college students), she will shyly ask, "Am I beautiful?". If the person answers yes, she will take off her mask and say, "Even like this?" on that point, if the victim answers "No," she will slay them usually with a pair of scissors. If the victim tells her she is pretty a second time, she follows the victim home and slays them in their own doorway, due to the fact that "kirei" (きれい), Japanese for 'pretty,' is a near homophone of "kire" (切れ), the imperative form of "to cut". In other versions of the myth if you reply yes again she will give you a large blood soaked ruby and walk away.



"How about now?!?!"

During the seventies, the urban legend went that if the victim answers "You're average", "so-so," or by saying the word "Bryllcreem" three times in a row they will be saved (or can escape) from the wrath of the "kuchisake-onna" (slit-mouthed woman).

"Dayo" - The First Full-Length DIGITAL Filipino Animated Movie

I am getting excited with the upcoming Philippine cinema premiere of the first Filipino digital full-length animated movie Dayo. DAYO is to what I believe means "to visit to a unfamiliar place", and since a boy will enter a world of myths and folklore hence the title DAYO.



The story revolves around a young boy, his new found friends, and the mythical magical world of Elementalia where all the laman lupa's dwell and live. The movie features mythical creatures from the Philippine folklore and myths. There is only one way to find out what the story will be and that is by watching the movie as it hits the cinema December 25, 2008.





World class singer and theater actress Leah Salonga sings her version of 2008's Dayo movie "Lipad".



"Lipad" by the Filipino Band Roots of Nature is one of the official soundtrack for the DAYO Movie.



Dayo features an all-Filipino production and storyline which is a perfect treat for the children and the family this coming Christmas of 2008 here in the Philippines.

Central City Needs a Hero - "The Spirit" of Christmas

From a brilliantly crafted comics classic comes a new movie adapted by Frank Miller (creator of 300 and Sin City)... The Spirit which will be on cinemas on December 25, 2008 (well, in the US that is).

Movie aficionados who have seen the movies by Frank Miller will surely be familiar with how "The Spirit" looks and feels. When I first saw its trailer I thought "Dang! Sin City 2?", which I later found out that "The Spirit" movie is a completely different title and was based on a action-adventure-romance humor classic 1940 comics by writer-artist Will Eisner.



So who, what, when, and how is "The Spirit"?

"The Spirit" is a fictitious American comic book super hero character popularized and created by writer-artist Will Eisner in 1940 on a Sunday-newspaper. It follows the chronicles of a former-detective Dan Colt now turned anonymous crime fighter known only with the name of The Spirit, a masked crime-fighter usually seen wearing a small domino mask, blue business suit, fedora hat, gloves, and his signature red necktie for his costume.

The End of The World at "2012": A Mayan Prediction and What it Has Spun

How the world will end have been predicted or "prophesied" by various scholars, books, religions, civilizations and even movies.

Do you still remember the Y2K thing? The coming of the year 2000 was shrouded by fear and paranoia by some due to prophecies that the world would actually end at the coming of that year. Well, we already know what happened after the year 2000, right? (and we are still here).

Once again another prophecy is spreading throughout the internet. This time, the world would end at exactly December 21, 2012. Such precise prophecy was made by the ancient civilization of the Mayans. The ancient civilization prophesied that the end of the world, December 21, 2012 is the day of the apocalypse. It is a prediction that has attracted a lot of attention and more interest now that 2012 is almost here. If there is something worth the sensationalism, it is this concept and it didn't passed the ever observing eyes of Hollywood.



A teaser trailer of a movie called 2012 was recently released worldwide. This disaster movie is obviously inspired by the Mayan Prophecy. What the Mayans have foretold in their prophecies is what this movie will showcase once it gets released (which is uncertain as of the moment, maybe by December 21, 2012?). Some New Age beliefs say that the "end of the world in December 2012" is just a transition of the old world to the New world (of maybe new ideals, industrial, mental, political, or spiritual revolution). Seven Years Later... "RESIDENT EVIL: Degeneration"

I remembered this game back in my high school days. It was the first ever "zombie game" on the gaming console that actually rocked and spooked the hell out of lots its gamers. Resident Evil or Bio Hazard aficionados is going to love this new animated movie follow up movie from the Resident Evil game series.

(May Contain some story reviews, summary and images which might spoil you.)

The premise of the story is set seven years after the outbreak of the T-Virus in Racoon City. The threat of the zombie infestation is now under-controlled but terrorism and violence is still rampant in the new society.

Claire Redfield is now a non-governmental organization representative which handles search and rescue of chemical and bio-terrorist attacks. As Claire arrives at the airport for some official NGO business, catastrophic events after the other started happening. A zombie appeared at the airline terminal and attacked and started infecting (literally biting) by-standards. Later an airplane crashed down on the terminal containing a number of zombies (humans infected with the t-virus)






Claire, together with the remaining survivors sought refuge and radioed about their where abouts. An rescue team was sent to save the survivors which was lead by Leon Scott Kennedy together with ex-SWAT police officer Angela Miller and Rani Chawla.



What happened next was a series of events and conspiracy, all unfolding the plot about the government, the bio-terrorist, and the world (This is me saying that the spoiler is over).



The Resident Evil: Degeneration special DVD and Blu-ray releases are slated for December 17, 2008 in Japan and December 27, 2008 in North America. For loyal aficionados of the Resident Evil game series, this movie is definitely a must. It is the movie which will conclude the game series (...or not. You will know once you've watched it), just like what the Final Fantasy Advent Child movie did.

De La Hoya - Pacquaio "Dream Match": A Day The Philippines Shall Stood Still

December 6, 2008 will marked the day when two of the greatest fighters shall face off each other. I am talking about the Philippines' Manny Pacquaio and Mexico's Oscar De La Hoya's "Dream Match".



I am not a big boxing aficionado but everytime a big celebrity or a "local icon" plays or fights for a world or any major international title it made me stop and watch it for a while to show my support or maybe hope that we (the Filipinos) can actually make a difference. We had indeed made a difference and that is through sports icons such as Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquaio has been a pride to the Filipinos, Philippine boxing industry, and maybe to the world by bagging up various major boxing titles. What the fun part is that everytime that Manny Pacquaio has a world title match, the crime rate in the Philippines drastically goes down.. well, it is nothing to be fund off but it is just amusing that almost every Filipino is interested in finding out whether Philippines' "People's Champ" will succeed or not.

Mexico and various boxing aficionados from all over the world has also shown great support to the Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya in this match.



And this is why the two countries (Mexico and the Philippines) would stood still in this boxing Dream Match between Manny Pacquaio and Oscar De La Hoya. So who is your bet?

You and I shall find out later...

Meet the New Team Knight Rider

Chris a here again with another hit US television series updates. This time CMAQUEST features the ever awesomeness (I sounded like Po of Kung Fu Panda hehehe) action-romance-sci-fi adventures of Knight Rider.



Fast Facts: This is the main protagonist Mike Traceur and Kitt (Knight Industries Three Thousand) in their first mission in the February 2008's movie which will serve as the backdoor pilot of the Knight Rider 2008 Series.

Bruce Davison as Charles Graiman, the creator of both the original KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) and the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) and is the father of Sarah.



Yancey Arias as Alex Torres is the head of Knight Industries operations.

Smith Cho as Zoe Chae is the very upbeat and seductive brainy chick behind some of the missions. She always tease Billy Morgan by being seductive.



Paul Campbell as Billy Morgan, is the main man and technical expert of Team Knight Rider. He doesn't like going on missions and prefer the desk jobs rather than being in the filled. I believe he has a secret crush on zoe (or was it really a secret?)



Val Kilmer voices of K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Three Thousand), a Mustang with Artificial Intelligence, the latest "biometrics technology", a wide arsenal of offensive weaponry and more.

This is the team behind Knight Rider 2008 TV Series which packed with action, romance, cool cars, nifty gadgets, engaging episodes and gorgeous women.
